Shell V-Power is a fuel with an additive designed to produce a cleaner burn, reducing the carbon deposits that build up on engine valves over time. The brief was to visualise that effect as a pair of lenticular holograms displayed side-by-side at the Fuel Research offices — one showing a clean valve (engine running on V-Power), one showing the same valve encrusted with carbon (engine running on regular fuel).
The initial proposal was a single hologram that transitioned from clean to carbon as the viewer moved across it — a stronger visual argument, folding the comparison into one physical piece. On grounds of production complexity, the client chose the two-hologram approach: the comparison reads across the pair, rather than through the transition of a single lenticular surface.
